What is NYC Men Teach?
NYC Men Teach is dedicated to uniting men of color committed to educating today’s diverse student population, engaging in each other’s professional and leadership development, and empowering the communities they serve.
How long is the Summer Fellowship?
The Summer Fellowship is eight (8)-weeks beginning June 12, 2023 - August 11, 2023. If you are accepted into the program, you will be expected to attend all eight (8) weeks.
Do you provide housing?
At times, we are able to support Summer Fellows with housing options, however, we cannot guarantee this service. If you are in need of housing, please let us know in your application. In addition, we strongly recommend you apply by the early action deadline if you need housing.
Why do I need to pass a background check?
All persons working with NYC students must pass a background check. In order to participate in the Fellowship, you must successfully pass a background check conducted by the NYC Department of Education.
Will I be paid over the summer?
Who is eligible for the Fellowship?
We provide a stipend of $2,500 - $3,000 disbursed over two (2) payments. You can expect to receive the first check between weeks 1-2 and your final check during the culminating ceremony.
The Fellowship is open to all rising junior and senior undergraduates, graduates, and all post-graduate students of ANY major. You should have a strong interest in teaching and be committed to learning more about the NYC public education system. Learn more about our eligibility requirements here.

If I'm not an education major, how will the Fellowship help me become a teacher in NYC?
If you are an education major, we will guide you on steps you need to take to become a classroom teacher in NYC. If you are not an education major, but want to become a teacher, the NYC Department of Education offers several pathways into the classroom including alternative certification programs that provide an accelerated route into the classroom for eligible candidates.
